Web: Blogging, Production, Audience Development
As technology grows and changes, the use of the Internet will continue to grow as well. With more and more people turning away from traditional media and towards the web to find their news, the web has become an exciting new space to deliver information to the audience. Whether it is the creativity afforded to you with blogging, working on the technical side of the web with web production or using social media and word-of-mouth adverting to expand a brand, the web is where its at.
Blogging: Mobile Journalism Tools, Images Repeating Themselves
My personal blog, Images Repeating, is a brain dump for all of my favorite images (art, architecture, photography), as well as my thoughts on music, movies and more. I began Images Repeating in October of 2009 after blogging for the journalism school for several years. I have maintained several blogs throughout my blogging experience. My old personal blog, Siesta Snooze was an experiment in blogging about sleep, dreams and health. Even though I stopped writing for Siesta Snooze in April of 2010, I still receive a lot of pageviews.
For my senior project, I tested out dozens of pieces of mobile journalism equipment to discover the best practices. After all of this testing, my team created guides to give to other newsrooms to share the knowledge that we accumulated. I created and maintained our blog, which drew in viewers from all across the planet and landed our names in Poynter. It was a great learning experience and I loved the chance to be on the cusp of breaking technologies in journalism. Click below to download our pocket guide for best practices.

Audience Development: Newsy.com
Newsy.com is a multi-source video news analyzer, which uses multiple sources to show all sides of the story. At Newsy.com, I worked as a part of their public relations team to build the Internet start-up company's brand name. Through social media and blogger outreach, I employed word-of-mouth advertising in hopes of improving SEO, inbound links and more.
Production: KBIA, Fox 2 (KTVI) and The CW, Channel 11 (KPLR) - St. Louis
As a new media producer for KBIA, I managed their website using Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Real Producer. I helped to brainstorm new multimedia content and helped to build up the station's social media presence. As a web intern at KTVI/KPLR, I helped to maintain the website using Tribune Interactive software, including TONS, TIVID, P2P and more. In addition to web production, I helped to start their My Neighborhood project - a hyper-local network of sites aimed at breaking down the area of St. Louis into local places people will visit for neighborhood news and gossip. I also took pictures of the morning show's personality Tim Ezell. A sample of those photos is included below. You can check out my blog regarding journalism and my internship here.
