Audio: Recording, Producing, Script Writing
I love the passion behind audio. It can be a performance. The best advice I ever heard came from Jessica Naudziunas, a Harvest Public Media reporter at KBIA. She said to play with your voice, ask people to tell you what they know, and most importantly, know your audience. Just find that one person who had a crappy day and wants to hear something that will move them - either by laughing, crying or feeling informed while driving home from work. What do they want to hear?
In convergence reporting and editing, I reported for KBIA 91.3 FM, Columbia's NPR station. I had the opportunity to do both long-form and day-turn stories to expand my audio editing skills. I chose radio for the majority of my reporting because I love reporting with a Marantz/recorder as opposed to a video camera. It is a lot less intrusive on the subject and I find audio stories to be very compelling. I became such a fan of our public radio station that I chose to return as their new media producer maintaining their website and again in 2011 producing Intersection.
